Newcomers Integration Program (NIP)
The Newcomer Integration Program provides case-management style assistance to all Government Assisted Refugees (GARs) arriving at Reception Centre and settling in the KW Community. Caseworkers are assigned to assist individuals and families during their first year in Canada.
The main activities of the program are:
- To provide in-depth, flexible and coordinated support to GARs coming to Reception Centre;
- To reduce GARs isolation, and facilitate integration into the community by referring them to the appropriate community agencies and services;
- To assist GARs achieve their long-term goals, learn about community services and how best to access them and participate in community activities;
- To advocate in the community to ensure greater awareness of refugee issues and needs.
The project team aims to help GARs become independent, healthy and happy so that they can enjoy their new life in Canada and be productive members of the community.
